The building’s location at the very mouth of Belfast Docks and its historical context were the inspiration for this exciting new development. It occupies a prominent site on the water’s edge affording this important 5 storey building enviable views over Belfast lough. The completed scheme is substantial in scale and form providing over 100,000 sq.ft of office space for Science and IT based companies, along with social, break-out and meeting spaces. A key design consideration was the prominent position of the project as a gateway marker for ships entering and leaving Belfast Docks. Also, being adjacent to the historic Thompson Dock & Pump House required our proposals to respond appropriately with sensitive yet modern elevations properly fashioned out of high quality materials and components.
Operational functionality was critical however the building was also designed to be flexible which includes the ability to fit-out the internal plan and servicing provision to suit each specific tenants’ needs. The 5 storey open-plan floor plate and generous horizontal and vertical service distribution allows a high degree of flexibility to cater for the individual requirements of each tenant, and allows the interior to be fitted out to their specific needs.
The Pierpont Building strengthens Catalyst’s portfolio of Science Park accommodation in the Titanic Quarter, and will help create substantial employment opportunities by attracting new dynamic start-up companies to the area. It will represent a substantial commitment to the regeneration of this important historic Docklands Area of Belfast.
