The Musgrave Park Neurology Unit was conceived, designed, and delivered as the natural expansion of McAdams earlier Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit. This stand-alone new build project is a 1500m2 unit for the care and rehabilitation of patients with chronic neurological conditions. Accommodation comprises 23 bedspaces in single / 4-bed formats, En-suites / Assisted Shower Rooms, Day / Dining, Servery Kitchen, TV Room, Therapy Rooms, Out-patients Clinic, Sensory Room and Gardens.
Procurement was through Health Estates Performance Related Partnering and included the following design features:
Quality external spaces were important as the project often caters for long stay patients. South-facing gardens include areas for socialising, quiet contemplation and horti-therapy activities all augmented by day-dining room which opens onto a pergola-shaded terrace area.
The result is a functionally efficient building which exhibits a real feeling of quality and brings in light and colour to provide an uplifting environment.
The completed project was the final phase of medical campus at Musgrave Hospital dedicated to the treatment of brain injury and neurological trauma. Together with the Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit which McAdams had completed earlier on an adjacent site the combined facilities put Northern Ireland at the forefront of this complex and challenging area of healthcare. This had a significant and positive impact on both the local and wider communities across the province.
