This new build state-of-the art SEN School caters for 288 children (4-16yrs) with ASD and complex learning needs. It was delivered within a “live” school campus whilst the original school remained fully operational during construction. The 2-storey solution accommodates 45 classrooms contained within an impressive yet economical 10,250m2 floor plate. General teaching areas are augmented by specialist subject classrooms for science, art, food technology, and music all with easy access to a centrally located library. There are dedicated sensory rooms and a therapy suite to support the additional needs of pupils including a life skills room to teach independent living skills.
A large, dedicated sports hall I supported by 2 generous and separate dining rooms for Primary and Secondary pupils. The Primary dining room includes a breakout area for Early Years lunches, enabling extra support to the youngest children in the first stage of their independent school career. The completed school has been well received by the Employer, Staff and Pupils.
The staff at Marjory Kinnon SEN school placed tremendous importance on optimising the outdoor learning experience. McAdams worked tirelessly with the teachers, educationalists, pupils and parents to understanding how the restricted site could be best utilised as both a learning and recreation space.
