Killyhevlin WTW (43Ml/day is located on the banks of Lough Erne and Dorisland WTW (50Ml/day), is located 10 miles north east of Belfast. Both works were suffering from exceedances in pesticides from their catchments and were subject to enforcement notices from NIEA. Killyhevlin WTW was also the subject of customer complaints for taste and odour. At both sites a filter building was constructed comprising of GAC tanks complete with plenum filter floors, clean backwash tank, dirty washwater tanks, plant room and MCC control rooms.
McAdam undertook the feasibility assessment and design for the scheme and the Project Management of the Construction Phase.
The new GAC filters will ensure the drinking water provided to Carrickfergus, Enniskillen and the surrounding areas is of the highest standard, providing safe clean drinking water to customers for the foreseeable future. Batching of the construction works helped ensure consistency of approach and releasing of savings due to bulk ordering of materials.
